Merkle International works on glass, cement, and metal projects for a large portfolio of international customers. It offers state-of-the art equipment design for a variety of applications. The company is internationally known for supplying high-quality, reliable refractory systems and related equipment for all types of industrial furnaces.

Customer Needs

Merkle International wanted to replace its aging server infrastructure, and was looking for a company that could provide comprehensive installation services. The organization’s file server was eight years old, and also contained Merkle’s e-mail system. The server had trouble coping with the company’s growing need for e-mail access outside of its domain. With no dedicated IT staff, Merkle employees also wanted to reduce the amount of maintenance required when running a server and tape back-up system.


CEC designed and installed Merkle’s server and domain, as well as the hosted exchange set-up. CEC also coordinated the initialization of Merkle’s offsite back-up system.
After partnering with CEC, Merkle International has:

  • A server and e-mail system that’s easier to maintain. Offsite storage and back-up services mean that Merkle no longer has to physically take tapes to its offsite storage facility, which saves employees time and money.
  • Reduced the amount of time spent on troubleshooting and diagnosing e-mail problems. The company’s new server is fast and responsive, and has eliminated the problems Merkle was having with its e-mail system.
  • A server that is now sized appropriately. It’s also able to meet Merkle’s requirements as the company continues to grow.
  • On-demand IT tech support that can be used when internal staff members don’t have time (or aren’t able) to address difficult computer problems.

It was CEC’s level of professionalism and customer service that made the choice easy for us. I assisted the CEC technicians with our server installation and domain set-up. They were here until 4am, and everything was completed before the start of the next business day. The server is fast and responsive, and works just like it should.
