TECHNOLOGIES: Fire and Security

Background

St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital is a 50-bed facility serving Rock County and surrounding areas. This brand new facility offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient treatment and diagnostic services in primary care and a wide range of specialties. The hospital shares a main entrance, 50-acre campus, and electronic health record system with Dean Clinic. St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital is a part of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.

Customer Needs

When St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital was under construction in 2011, staff members were searching for a partner to install their new fire alarm system. Construction timelines for the new building were also very tight, and St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital needed a fire inspection program in place immediately.

Solution

Thanks to CEC’s work with another SSM Health Care facility (St. Mary’s Madison Hospital), staff members chose to work with CEC again on St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital. CEC worked with staff members to establish an inspection program and get new fire alarm systems up and running.
After working with CEC, St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital now has:

  • Reliable monitoring services that keep staff members up-to-date on any alarm activity, which improves patient safety.
  • Fast responses times during emergency situations. When St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital monitored response times with the local fire marshal, the alarm sounded at 9:02pm; CEC received the signal at 9:02pm, the fire department was paged at 9:03pm, and the director of plant/environmental services simultaneously received CEC’s call regarding the alarm.
  • Experienced, specialized inspectors with NICET certification who manage the hospital’s routine fire alarm inspections.
  • A new fire alarm system tailored to the needs of the hospital, leaving plenty of room for future facility upgrades, expansions, and retrofits.
  • A solution to uncomfortable horn/strobe volumes. The horns specified for installation were too loud, and CEC presented two alternatives to achieve lower volume levels.

I find CEC easy to work with, and they offer fast responses to my requests. CEC was chosen because of a previous experience with a [sister hospital], and also due to cost-effectiveness, reasonable pricing, and warranty extension.
