Theda Clark Medical Center

TECHNOLOGIES: Fire and Security

Background

Theda Clark Medical Center is recognized throughout Wisconsin for its innovation and quality of care. Since its inception in 1909, Theda Clark Medical Center has grown to be one of the largest acute-care facilities in the area, with 250 licensed beds. It was the first medical center to provide air medical helicopter service and single-room maternity suites.

Customer Needs

Theda Clark Medical Center was looking for a company that could provide proper documentation for all fire inspection services. The medical center was lacking records that could be used as proof that specific devices had been inspected for proper operation. Staff members needed evidence to show inspectors that they were completing annual inspections for their 600,000-square-foot campus.

Solution

CEC took over Theda Clark Medical Center’s annual inspections in 2009, with qualified technicians conducting all fire alarm inspections. As part of this process, the medical center also has access to an online reporting system that provides comprehensive data on every device inspected.

With new fire alarm inspection services in place, Theda Clark Medical Center now has:

  • Consistently updated documentation that addresses exactly what inspectors expect to see.
  • A customized inspection service that addresses every inspection request made by the facility.
  • Smoke control testing and air-handling unit (AHU) shutdown testing that is noted on annual fire alarm documentation.
  • Fire alarm inspection and testing that mirror NFPA 72 1999, which is required in healthcare facilities.
  • A detailed inspection report to meet standards from The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the local fire department.

Having our annual fire alarm device testing properly documented makes working with CEC worth the investment. CEC’s documentation was better than the competition, too. When we ask for something, CEC always says, "We can do that for you".
