Woodside Senior Communities

TECHNOLOGIES: Information Technology

Background

From independent senior living to skilled nursing, Woodside Senior Communities offers a full continuum of care – all on one campus. Established nearly 50 years ago, Woodside aims to provide the highest level of care and services possible, allowing residents to remain in the Woodside community as their health needs change.

Customer Needs

For more than 20 years, CEC has worked with Woodside Senior Communities to design, install, and manage the organization’s access control, fire alarms, wireless nurse call, resident wandering systems, VoIP phones, and IT projects. The organization is currently building a new memory care community-based residential facility, as well as remodeling its skilled nursing facility. The Woodside team realized that installing an antiquated phone system in the new building wouldn’t be beneficial, so they called on CEC to analyze the new building’s IT infrastructure and determine what kind of phone system it could support.

Solution

CEC evaluated Woodside Senior Communities’ IT network to ensure success of a VoIP phone solution. As a result, the organization now has:

  • A thorough understanding of its IT network, causes of bottlenecks, and potential areas of improvement.
  • The infrastructure groundwork to support a state-of-the-art VoIP phone system.
  • A phone system that allows users to use their VoIP phones, mobile phones, or any phone connected to the phone network as if it were their own extension.
  • No single point of phone failure: the VoIP platform ensures that each switch and site functions as an independent call processor. In the event of a WAN failure, the phone system can still place and receive calls.
  • A streamlined set of tools for employees to use when managing communications. Voicemail messages can be managed from e-mail inboxes, saving staff memebers time and allowing easy, remote access to all voicemail messages.
  • A technology partner that understands the organization's systems and processes. With only two IT staff members managing technology for Woodside's 350 residents and 330 employees, CEC serves as a resource when questions or problems arise.

“Having one vendor allows for more efficiency when working on a variety of projects. The staff at CEC know us and our business, and we know them. There’s a sense of security in knowing that we’re working with people who understand our needs. We’ve gone through numerous projects, and every one – regardless of how big or small – has been a success.”
